ReadLens — AI Page Summarizer
ReadLens — Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 11, 2026
This policy covers the ReadLens browser extension and the ReadLens service at
readlens.xeviora.com. It is hosted publicly at
https://readlens.xeviora.com/privacy — that is the URL declared on the Chrome Web
Store listing, and the two must always say the same thing.
ReadLens is a product of Xeviora. Questions: [email protected]
The short version
The extension sends the content of a page to our servers only at the moment you press Summarize or ask a follow-up question on that page. It never reads pages in the background, and it never touches a tab you did not act on. Your summary history is stored locally in your browser — our servers keep a copy of a summary only if you explicitly click Share to create a public link.
Data we process
Page content — only on your explicit action
When you press Summarize or ask a follow-up, the extension extracts the current page's text, tables, title and URL and sends them to our server, which forwards them to an AI provider to generate the answer. This happens once per action you take, never on a schedule and never in the background.
- We do not use your page content to train models.
- We do not retain the page content after the request completes.
- Pages you did not summarize are never read, transmitted, or logged.
Local-only data (never leaves your browser)
- Summary history — up to 300 past summaries, stored in the extension's own IndexedDB database. There is no cloud library in this version. Clear it any time from the History view.
- Preferences — interface language, summary output language, panel theme and default
depth, stored in
chrome.storage.local. - Copy Prompt usage counter — a per-day count used to enforce the free daily allowance for the account-free Copy Prompt feature. It is a number in local storage; it is not reported to us.
- Review-prompt state — a local counter that decides whether to show the "rate this extension" card once, and whether you dismissed it.
Account data (only if you create an account)
Email address and name, plus the basic profile shared by Google or GitHub if you sign in
that way. Authentication uses a single first-party session cookie scoped to
readlens.xeviora.com only.
Shared summaries (only if you press Share)
When you click Share, that one summary — its title, the page URL and the summary text — is stored on our servers and becomes readable by anyone holding the link, until you delete it.
Billing
Payments are processed by Paddle, our merchant of record. We never see your card details; we store your subscription status and Paddle's customer/subscription identifiers.
What we never collect
- Your browsing history. The extension reads a page only when you ask it to.
- The content of pages you did not explicitly summarize.
- Your local summary history — it lives in your browser's storage only.
- Background telemetry. There is no analytics beacon in the extension.
We do not sell or rent personal data to anyone, and we do not use it for advertising or cross-site tracking.
Permissions and why they are needed
These are exactly the permissions declared in the extension's manifest — no more, no fewer.
| Permission | Why ReadLens needs it |
|---|---|
storage |
Remember your interface language, summary output language, panel theme, default depth, and the local daily counter behind the free Copy Prompt allowance. |
unlimitedStorage |
Let the local summary history hold up to 300 full summaries of long pages without hitting the default quota. This storage is on your device only. |
sidePanel |
ReadLens has no popup — its whole interface is a Chrome side panel that opens beside the page. This permission is required to open and render it. |
contextMenus |
Add a right-click item so you can summarize the page you are on without reaching for the toolbar. |
downloads |
Save an exported summary to your computer when you click an export action. No automatic or background downloads. |
tabs |
Read the active tab's title and URL so the panel can show which page it is about to act on, and address the extraction request to that exact tab. No browsing history is collected or transmitted. |
activeTab |
Grant ReadLens temporary access to the single tab you just invoked it on. Chrome grants this only at the moment you click the toolbar icon, pick the right-click item, or press the shortcut, and it lapses when that tab navigates away. |
scripting |
Load the reading script into that same tab on demand. Chrome only injects a declared content script into pages loaded after the extension was installed, so without this the first page you try — one that was already open — could not be read. Used only on the tab you acted on, and only when the script is not already there. |
clipboardWrite |
Copy the summary, or the ready-made prompt produced by Copy Prompt, when you click a copy action. |
Host permissions
| Host | Why |
|---|---|
https://readlens.xeviora.com/* |
The extension calls the ReadLens API for summaries, follow-ups, sharing and your account status, reusing your normal site session cookie. This is the only host the extension is granted access to. |
Content script on all sites (<all_urls>)
ReadLens's entire purpose is to read whatever page you are currently viewing, and that page can be on any website — there is no way to predict the URL in advance, so the content script must be declared broadly. The script has no user interface, does nothing on page load, and only extracts text when the extension messages it in response to your Summarize action.
Third parties
We rely on: Vercel (hosting), Neon (database), OpenRouter (AI processing), Paddle (payments) and Resend (transactional email). Each receives only the minimum data needed for its function.
Data retention and deletion
- Shared summaries persist until you delete them, from the dashboard or from the extension.
- Local history can be cleared inside the extension at any time, and uninstalling the extension removes it with the extension's storage.
- You can delete your entire account yourself from Settings → Danger zone: your account, every shared summary and your credit history are removed immediately and permanently. No email request and no waiting period.
Children
ReadLens is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top and the version hosted at https://readlens.xeviora.com/privacy. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
