FeedLens — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-08-12

This policy applies to the FeedLens — AI RSS Reader browser extension. The public copy of this policy is hosted at https://feedlens.xeviora.com/privacy.

The short version

FeedLens does not collect, sell, or transmit your personal data. It has no account and no analytics. Your subscriptions, folders, read/star state, settings and cached article text are stored locally in your browser and never leave your device. AI features are strictly opt-in and off by default.

What data FeedLens stores (locally only)

  • Your feed subscriptions and folder organization
  • Read / unread and starred state
  • Cached article full text (for offline reading)
  • Your settings (including whether AI features are enabled)
  • A local counter of how often you have used the extension, used solely to decide when to show the one-time "enjoying this?" prompt

All of the above is stored on your device via chrome.storage.local. None of it is uploaded to us or to any third party.

Network requests

To function as an RSS reader, FeedLens fetches feed XML and article pages directly from the sites you subscribe to. These requests go to those sites, not to FeedLens. The content is rendered locally in your reader.

If — and only if — you explicitly enable AI features (TL;DR, translation, daily digest, Focus filtering), the specific text you ask about is sent to the AI backend to produce that result. AI is off by default; when disabled, no AI request is ever made. The extension ships no API keys and no analytics.

Saving an article is entirely local: every output format is generated inside your browser and written straight to your downloads folder. Nothing about a saved article is transmitted anywhere.

If you uninstall FeedLens, Chrome opens a farewell page on our website (xeviora.com/uninstall). That page carries only the product code and the extension version in its address — no identifier of you. The optional survey on it is anonymous: it stores no account, no email and no IP address.

Permissions and why they are needed

  • activeTab — Read the active tab's URL/page only when you click the toolbar button, to detect available feeds.
  • storage — Save your subscriptions, folders, read/star state and settings locally on your device.
  • unlimitedStorage — Cache article full text for offline reading without a storage-size cap.
  • scripting — Inject a small content script that detects <link rel=alternate> feed declarations on the page.
  • contextMenus — Add a right-click "Subscribe with FeedLens" menu item.
  • alarms — Periodically refresh your subscribed feeds in the background to keep unread counts current.
  • offscreen — Run Readability full-text extraction in an offscreen document (requires a DOM).
  • notifications — Optionally notify you about new items — user-controlled, off by default.
  • Host permissions (http://*/*, https://*/*) — Fetch feed XML and article pages from the sites you subscribe to. Cross-origin reads are inherent to any RSS reader; your reading data never leaves the device.

Data sharing and sale

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with third parties. We do not use it for advertising or for any purpose unrelated to a single feature you have chosen to use.

Children's privacy

FeedLens is a general-purpose reading tool and is not directed at children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above and the hosted copy at https://feedlens.xeviora.com/privacy will be revised.
